To address this, the Democratic Party legislator believes that one way to tackle this is by providing easier access to banking credit. This was conveyed during a specific working visit with the Financial Services Authority (OJK) in Bandung. This visit was part of an effort to evaluate the financial services sector in the region.
Fathi stated that the high demand for quick and easy financing often leads people to fall into the trap of illegal online lending services. This can be concerning and detrimental to the public due to high and non-transparent interest rates.

“We cannot ignore the fact that many people need financing for urgent needs. If access to credit in banks is difficult, they tend to seek risky shortcuts, such as illegal online lending,” said Fathi.
He emphasized the importance of providing simple, inclusive, and affordable credit schemes by banks. This aligns with the government’s desire to eradicate illegal loan practices that often harm the public, both financially and psychologically.
“We in Commission XI continue to urge OJK and banks to present concrete solutions, such as expanding financial inclusion and simplifying credit procedures for the small community. Furthermore, financial literacy education should also be intensified,” he added.
Fathi appreciated OJK’s actions in cracking down on thousands of illegal online lending platforms. However, he believes that repressive measures are not enough. What is needed is synergy between regulators, the financial industry, and the government to create a healthy and trustworthy financial ecosystem.
“This is not just about eradicating illegal online lending, but also building public trust in formal financial institutions. This way, we can guide the public towards safer and more responsible choices,” Fathi explained.
Through this specific working visit, Fathi hopes that the community’s aspirations can be effectively absorbed. This way, policies can truly benefit the common people.
